PUB INCIDENT
While at Chelveston for about 7 months
I remember an incident that happened at a Pub that I think was out the
north gate of the 422nd squadron billets. We went there for beer, darts,
skittles and feminine companionship. There were always girls there who
would allow you to buy them Port wine for some conversation.
(I think that the wine was cut with water.) We usually rode our bikes
to and from camp and carried a quart of beer in each hand. One night when
I was in this Pub, a Master Sergeant came in with a five-pound note pinned
under his wings. I didn't know him nor had I seen him before. He ordered
a beer and quietly sat at a table by himself. In a short time one of the
most beautiful girls I had ever seen came in and looking around spotted
this Sgt. Without a word she came and sat down with him. In only a few
moments they both got up and left the Pub. This was after that always
a conversation piece with those in the Pub. I don't remember the name
of the Pub or if it was even out the north gate of our camp.
